Yesterday's Street Food Festival (too many people, couldn't get near the food, not real street vendors) was a great big mess!!!! It made me think of Clementine Paddleford, possibly America's first food journalist. She drove over 800,000 miles between 1948 and 1960 to get the food story. Now so many people are "into" food that you can't get near any of it... to eat it!!
She was doing all this when the food craze was in it's infancy. I admire her devotion. The other thing I love about her is her name. Clementine Paddleford. The very important food writer you have never heard of.
Thank you David Kamp,
author of The United States of Arugula for introducing me to this interesting lady.
