lisa's bug boxes

My sister Lisa's amazing art!
These were featured in the LA Times.

Insects at Home
The Miniature Insect Dioramas of Lisa Wood (my sister!)

Lisa Wood's fantastical dioramas feature anthropomorphic depictions of insects in domestic, story book recreations: climbing ladders, reading books, holding tea parties and socializing in their secret, everyday lives hidden from prying human eyes.
This collection of dioramas is made with real insects in a natural setting made with both natural and man-made "props". Sealed in a glass and wood box measuring 2.5"x 2.5"x 3.5" for the smaller dioramas and 4 3/4"x 2.5"x 3.5" for the larger ones.

pot holders

For some reason I am thinking about pot holders today.
Maybe in anticipation of all the cooking to be done in America next week.
They are goofy and I like them.

street scene

Wild street art on Post Street.

I like the use of newspaper.

The wonderful "book" lights in North Beach.

ginkgo trees

We don't have fall in San Francisco.
Nothing. Zip. Zero.
So I will remember the ginkgo trees of Brooklyn.

Dekotora, are art decorator trucks originating from Japan.
Dekotora are designed with loud, attention grabbing features and colors,
both inside and out, in order to turn heads as they drive by. Lots of neon at night.
The truck must not be a commercial truck,
the hobby is strictly for owners and their own vehicles.
It’s believed that Dekotora began in 1975 after the release of a movie aptly called ‘Trucker’ in which the star drives one such vehicle all over Japan.
There is no set guideline in design, the goal is to make the truck stand out.

Amazing photos by Hans Silvester of the Omo people.
They are their own canvas.
They use the many pigments available around the Omo river of Ethiopia.

jeff bridges

I saw Men Who Stare At Goats yesterday.
Not bad, not great, but good.
I realized how much I adore Jeff Bridges.
He sparkles with genuineness.

the house

Had a wonderful meal last night at The House.
Happy Birthday Stan!

Deep fried salmon roll with chinese hot mustard.

Creme brulee with passion fruit.
I was reluctant at first being a creme brulee purist, it was divine.

The House, 1230 Grant Street, San Francisco.
Photos are borrowed from Yelp.

And then a walk down the street for a White Nun at Tosca.
A beautiful evening in North Beach.
